E-Board Meetings

E-Board meetings are held monthly and are attended by elected officials of the Denver Astronomical Society, representatives of Denver University and DNMH's Gates Planetarium. The meetings are open to the general membership, but voting is done by elected officials only.

General Meetings

Our general meetings are scheduled on Friday evenings monthly except for March and December. These meetings are open to the public. For speaker information and last minute changes to the meeting schedule, contact the DAS Hot Line at (303) 871-5172.

January - 21st - E-Board Nominations -  The speaker(s) for the January 28 meeting will be Dr. Robert Stencel, Director of Chamberlin Observatory,  and Mr. Russ Mellon, President of Equinox Intersciences, who will discuss the future possibilities of Chamberlin Observatory and the engineering of large telescopes.

February - 18th - Election of Club Officers and E-Board Members - Speaker Dr. Edward Euler of Lockheed Martin who will give us a debrief of the Mars Polar Lander mission and speak about the future of Mars missions.

Public Night

Public Night is held at Denver University's Chamberlin Observatory, on Tuesdays and Thursdays (excluding holidays).  The evening begins with a slide show describing the planets, nebulae, clusters, galaxies, comets and many other celestial events, follwed by an observing session through the observatory's historic 20" Alvan Clark refractor (weather permitting).

Due to limited seating and an improved observing eperience, reservations are requested. There is a $2.00 charge for adults and $1.00 for children. Reservations can be made by calling (303) 871-3222.

Star Parties

The DAS schedules local star parties on a monthly basis. They are in leiu of many national events for members unable to travel to the more remote sites. We will host the star parties at the Deer Trail dark site unless otherwise noted. Contact the DAS Hot Line at (303) 871-3222 or refer the the DAS Newsletter The Denver Observer for up to date information regarding star partys. I have also posted some more notable regional star parties for those interested.

Special Events

The DAS schedules annual banquetts, BBQ's, Christmas parties, auctions and other special events through out the year. Here is the 2000 schedule of special events:

Annual Banquet - Saturday, March 18th  at Dardano's Restaurant, 11968 W. Jewell Avenue, in Lakewood (near Jewell and Simms). Dinner will be a buffet offering roast beef, chicken Ernesto, Italian sausage, lasagna, cavatelli, cheese ravioli, fettucini, alioli, mixed Italian vegetables, broccoli in a cheese sauce, cheesecake, and homemade bread.  The speaker will be Dr. Jo Ann Joselyn, an Astrogeophysicist with C.U., and Secretary General of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics.  (Geodesy is the study of the Earth's surface.)  Her subject will be "Space Weather and how the Sun Affects Weather and Storms on the Earth."

M.A.R.S. Meeting -  Location and date To Be Announced

Annual Picnic - Saturday, July 8th, 1:00 p.m. at Observatory Park.  Bring your scope for the Open House following the picnic.

Colorado Astronomy Day - Saturday, October 7th - Daytime:Gates Planetarium - Night:Chamberlin Observatory

DAS Auction - Saturday, October 21st - 1:00 p.m. at Chamberlin Observatory.  Proceeds to benefit the VanNattan Scholorship Fund

Christmas Party - Saturday, December 9thth - Location TBA
